Biography of Jane Bates...

At age 18 I met an AKC professional breeder/handler of miniature Schnauzers. After breeding my female to her Champion male, La Verne Thompson taught me how to groom Schnauzers for dog shows and I would assist her at AKC shows. I later worked part time in her grooming shop in San Leandro, Ca. Where I learned how to groom other breeds. Through a Schnauzer club, I met Harry Hughes, who was a breeder and handler of Standard Schnauzers. I began to work for Harry as a comber/bather and later a groomer.

People began complimenting my grooms on my Miniature Schnauzers. I later went out on my own as a house call dog groomer until 1990, when I purchased my first mobile unit. I also offered pet sitting services until I got so busy, my mother had to take it over. It was called "No Place Like Home" in San Mateo, CA.

I attended several pet grooming expos, including events in Hershey, Pa and Burbank, Ca. I also attended Seminars by John Stazko and Mario De Fante. I later joined a mobile pet groomer's association and became a C.A.H. (Companion Animal Hygienist). In August of 2006 I was asked to demonstrate how to groom a Miniature Schnauzer correctly at a seminar in Tempe, AZ.

I have lived and been grooming in my mobile unit in the East Valley for over seven years. I currently own three Miniature Schnauzers: Halle (my grooming demo model), Ty and Drummer. I participate regularly in continuing my education online and mentoring other pet groomers in any way I can. I have many pet groomer colleagues across the country and even in Wales and Scotland!
